WE ARE OF THE ECOSYSTEM

A remembrance that we are a part of nature and not separate from nature. There is this separateness we as modern humans experience. Ecospirituality is a coming home to our humaness as a being of earth.

I teach about ancestral healing through reconnection of culture, nature, ritual, and hearth craft. By integrating ecosystem sciences and ecospirituality we open up a deeper level sacredness within our world—in our rituals and crafts. The ecospiritual lens is an open belief system that can be fulfilling on it's own or layered with other faiths.

HOW CAN SCIENCE AND ECOSPIRITUALITY SUPPORT OUR SACRED JOURNEY OF LIFE HERE ON EARTH?

Science gives us a lens into nature, allowing us to see the qualities that make something what it is. Science is not meant to be worshiped here science is purely a system of understanding that allows us to find the sacred within the ecosystem, the ecology, then natural world that we live in. The system of integrating science and spirituality allows us to embark on an expensive lifelong journey full of deeper connection.

Science can be a conduit to learning about the spirit of an animal and the medicine it brings. When I speak of spirits and spiritual medicine, I speak of the essence that makes something what it is. The spirit(essence) of the vulture through a biological eco spiritual lens we see the vulture as a natural decomposer—signifying decomposition, death, rebirth, etc. The vulture spirit then also brings the spiritual medicine of decomposition, death, rebirth, etc.

Turning to science allows us to learn about the natural world—once we learn the natural world we can begin to read the natural world. A turning to natural earth based and cosmic based sciences for spiritual significance is an accessible way to embrace the sacred that lives within each facet of our natural world. Yes, travel is amazing, but even with travel we will not know the deeper experience a biologist does after living in the creatures natural habitats. Science allows us see a deeper level of magnificence.

My interdisciplinary research looks at how we can return to the ways of nature—by tuning into nature and creating deeper relationship. Many of our ancestors have observed and listened to the whispers of nature for spiritual medicine. Across the world many cultures view the world through an eco-spiritual lens. It’s one of those cross-cultural golden threads that can bring humans together. Ecospirituality is not meant to replace any existing belief system, but to add a layer of depth to add a layer of sacred to the Earth that we live on the creatures we cohabitate with and the universe that we live within. Science gives us an accessible lens of looking for spiritual medicine in our direct ecosystem. This integration of science and spirituality allows us to study and deepen into our spiritual experience across the world—allowing us to create relationship with regions of our ancestors. Learning about an ecosystem that our ancestors came from can adds a layer of ancestry connection and reclamation—this allows us to interact with the spirits our ancestors may have engaged with.
