ETHNOBOTANY & INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH

Ethnobotany is where plants, people, memory, culture, and healing meet. My work in ethnobotany brings together academic research and lived tradition, helping clients understand the deeper relationships between plants, place, and lineage, and weave that wisdom into everyday ritual and care.

What ethnobotany is

Ethnobotany is the study of how people understand, use, and relate to plants across time and culture. It includes:

  • Traditional plant knowledge and remedies.

  • Cultural stories, songs, and practices around plants.

  • Historical and contemporary uses of plants for food, medicine, ritual, and craft.

  • The ways plants shape and are shaped by human communities and landscapes.

In my work, ethnobotany is not just academic; it is a living, relational practice that honors both scientific insight and the wisdom carried in families and communities.

Ethnobotany in Ritual Therapy

Within Ritual Therapy, ethnobotany supports:

  • Understanding: helping you see how plants have shaped human life, healing, and meaning.

  • Integration: weaving plant knowledge into your own rituals, home, and spiritual path.

  • Ethics: approaching plant work with respect, reciprocity, and cultural sensitivity.

Sessions may include:

  • Exploration of plants that resonate with your lineage, land, or personal journey.

  • Guidance on ethical, informed ways to work with plants in ritual and daily life.

  • Reflection on how plant relationships can support healing, grounding, and belonging.

  • Connections between plant wisdom and your existing spiritual or religious practices.

This is not medical or clinical advice; it is educational and spiritual support rooted in ethnobotanical knowledge and care.

No. We start where you are, whether you are completely new to plants or already have a deep practice. Sessions are tailored to your experience, curiosity, and goals.

Is this medical or clinical advice about herbs?
No. Ethnobotany here is offered as educational and spiritual support rooted in plant knowledge and cultural context. It is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a licensed healthcare provider.

Can this work honor my existing religion or spiritual path?
Yes. Ethnobotany in this context is meant to deepen what is already meaningful to you, not replace your beliefs. We work within your framework and your comfort.

How it connects to your other specialties

Ethnobotany naturally overlaps with:

  • Folk Medicine where plant knowledge becomes part of everyday healing and home care.

  • Folk Magic where plants carry intention for protection, blessing, and spiritual work.

  • Eco-Spirituality & Animism where plants are understood as living relatives and teachers in a reciprocal web.

  • Sacred Homesteading where growing, harvesting, and using plants becomes part of sacred, sustainable living.

  • Neurobiology, Ecology & Evolution where human-plant relationships are understood through deep time, adaptation, and ecological context.

Within Ritual Therapy, these threads are woven together based on what you need in a given season of life.
